STEM Week 2022 – Part 1
This week was STEM Week at Sharples and saw the Science team running a series of enrichment events for our students across all year groups each and every day. There was so much activity, we only have space to report on the first part here, read Part 2 next week!

Cryptocurrency Talk
On Monday morning, all of Year 10 were in the Theatre attending a ‘TED-style’ talk from Josh Riddett, CEO Easycrptohunter and UK Cryptocurrency advisor to the EU Parliament, who explored his own local entrepreneurial path from school through college and university to businessman of the year. Students were also able to ask questions about the current crypto industry.

Astronomy Club
On Monday lunchtime, Year 7 Astronomy club celebrated with a special screening of ‘The Universe’ in our 3D cinema (G41), exploring the 7 wonders of our solar system.

‘Escape the Lab!’
On Monday afterschool, Year 7 forms competed against each other to escape our lab of challenging experimental clues with the most time to spare. Well done to all of the forms who entered and managed to re-emerge, but particular congratulations to our prize winners, 7S!

Transition Talk
On Tuesday morning, all of Year 10 were in the Theatre attending a transition talk from Rowan Edlington, former Head Girl at Sharples, who explored her own academic career path from Sharples through college to how to apply to prestigious universities. Students were also able to ask questions about current developments in Astronomy.

Star Dome
On Wednesday, we hosted a mobile planetarium in the Theatre. Students across the year groups, as well as some of our local primary schools, explored the awe and wonder of the night sky, learning about where we all come from, materials made in the cores of exploding stars. We are all stardust!

Many thanks to all the Science teaching and technician team who supported enrichment events for our students to enjoy during STEM Week.
