Fine Dining at Bolton Catering College

By 1 February 2023No Comments

This week the Food Technology department took pupils to Bolton college for the day. Year 9 and 10 pupils took part in a Hospitality and Catering event at Bolton Catering College. The event introduced pupils to higher level skills such as working with chicken, fish and preparing vegetables. We even had some pupils have a go at preparing vegetables ready for service (pictured above). There were three separate demonstrations, one given by their lead teacher who has previously worked in many high end restaurants such as the Savoy.

The pupils experienced working in a restaurant and helped prepare the tables ready for service. This included working alongside the Level 2 students from the college to prepare tables in the correct manner. They prepared all tables with freshly ironed tablecloths (pictured above), which they had to make sure were fit for a fine dining experience: lining up the crease of the tablecloth and laying the tables with an array of cutlery fit for silver service. They even polished all of their own cutlery ready to be laid out.

We were then served with a menu made specifically for Sharples School (pictured above) and cooked by their Level 2 and 3 Hospitality and Catering students. The menus included a splendid choice of food for pupils to choose from and included a three course menu.

The college restaurant was set up with calming music and a scenic fireplace on the big screen. Pupils enjoyed their three course meal and we were served in style.

Sharples pupils were arranged at three dining tables and it was lovely to see Year 9 and 10 pupils coming together and sharing a lavish meal (pictured above). Feedback from the college about Sharples pupils was amazing and they were described as being the most polite and lovely pupils. They were a credit to the school.

Finally, we took the Year 10 pupils on a tour of the college to see the various departments that are available for Level 2 and 3 courses. Ranging from Building to Sports and Health and Social care. Watch this space, more visits to the college are planned over the coming year!
