It’s fantastic to see many of our students active and doing so well outside of school. The department always encourages students to be physically active when not at school and it is great to see so many of our talented pupils excelling in their sports away from school.

Last Saturday was the Great Manchester Cross Country Championships. After some fantastic performances in the Bolton competition Sharples had a number of students that qualified to represent the Borough. Skye Gifford, Marcus Valentine and Henry Riding represented the school and Town and showed excellence resilience in such difficult conditions. Skye ran a superb race and achieved an excellent time, Marcus Valentine trains regularly outside of school at Bolton Harriers and his efforts paid off when he finished in the top 20 securing 17th place and the highest position out of the Bolton athletes in his race. Henry Riding ran an incredible race and finished in the top 10 despite competing against older competitors.

Cherie Ufuoma was back competing in athletics last weekend when she travelled to Sheffield to compete in the North of England Athletics Championships. Cherie achieved a bronze medal in the 60m sprint with a personal best time of 8.08 seconds, narrowly being edged out by Michael Owen’s daughter in the final. Cherie is also an elite netballer but has decided to try and focus on her athletics in her bid to become the quickest athlete in GB.

Aidan Bhaloda won another Gold medal this weekend when competing in the Taekwondo tournament. It was a long weekend but Aidan ended the weekend undefeated once again.

Sharples star trampolinist Oliver McCrorie travelled to Cardiff this week to compete against the best in the Country. Oliver performed fantastically well and nearly achieved full marks in a couple of his routines. It was no surprise to see Oliver bringing back a Gold medal in what was another exceptional performance.

It clearly was an action packed weekend for many of our students last week and it is great to see students excelling and competing in a variety of different sports. Regardless of ability, we would strongly advise students to find a hobby or interest that keeps them physically active outside of school.
